Postgresql Problem

Postby newcomers » Thu May 10, 2012 9:22 am

I was running PT4 just now whilst playin and the laptop froze.I restarted the laptop, went to start PT4 and it froze again. I started in safe mode, restarted in normal mode and tried PT4 again.

Now imgetting this error:

Unable to login to database (postgres). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "???" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

any ideas? I have just tried PT3 and that also cant connect to the databases

Thanks

That error is implying that PostgreSQL is not running. Click Start type services.msc and click on it when it appears. In the services window, locate and try to start PostgreSQL - will it start?

Ok Ive had to reinstall Postgres. Ive followed the guide on this site. I didnt delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.3\data folder, but when Postgres was installing, it didnt like this folder and the only way it would install was if I deleted the folder (I made a backup).

After installation, PT4 will now start but with no databases. If I try to use the old "data" folder, Postgres will no longer start and Im stuck with the same problem.

It seems the problem is with something in the old data folder. How can I find out what it is, as I dont have a backupof my database.

Thanks

That means you were using the wrong version of the installer - if you were using the one click you need to use the pgInstaller (or vice versa) and then the installer will complete successfully - and you'll still have your data.
