Updating Cache Question

Postby oracle3001 » Sat Feb 04, 2012 7:41 am

I was just doing a bulk import of old hands and noticed that after every 2-3 files imported, PT4 starts doing an update to the cache. Why is this, as it seems to significantly slow the process right down...As a result, I am only getting 4-5 h/s, which I have timed against PT3 (base import speed of ~120 h/s*), and then even after including PT3 extra housekeeping, is many many times slower. PT4 took 5hrs to fully complete (import, cache updates and database maintenance) an import of only ~50k hands.

PT4 clearly is aware there are still many more files to be imported? Wouldn't it be better for PT4 to wait until all hands have been imported, before performing this operation?

* yes I am aware of widely discussed issue of housekeeping during vs housekeeping post import.

I believe this is a known issue resulting from the use of Automatically Apply Treat As - you can turn that off in the Configure --> Sites and Import Options --> Preferences area and you should see a considerable speed boost if you're affected by this problem.

It is something we are looking to improve upon for future releases, but I don't yet know what the end result is going to be here.

That makes an enormous difference, from 4-5 h/s to 70 h/s...

We are working with the sites directly to make this option obsolete. As a result of the magnitude of these slowdowns, we are also changing the default behavior to have this box unchecked so that it will only be turned on by those who decide to do so.
