database import/setup complete?

Postby bigpairde » Wed Feb 01, 2012 5:42 am

Hi there,
I just downloaded and installed it yesterday. It took very long (seems cash hands were imported rather quickly but it took like 5 hours to import 100k tourney hands out of 500k. so I let it run overnight, hoping to find it finished in the morning. Now when I got up I found that my computer rebooted (windows update) at some point and I don't know that happened after my PT4 setup was complete. What is the easiest way for me to check if everything got imported properly? (I can open PT4 fine, maybe that already means everything went fine?)

thanks a lot
bigpairde.

If you know the number of tournaments you played it's probably easiest to click "View Stats" and select your screenname from the list in the top left corner and then click T > Results, and see if the right number of tournaments are shown.

thanks whiterider.
It didn't seem to have everything, so i just started the import again. it is now complete, but had several errors (data chunks not imported). that might have been exactly what happened the first time.
I guess there is no way for me to find out what exactly didn't get imported?
It seems that tourney summaries are affected and maybe also some tourneys but I have no idea how I could tell for sure.
I guess that means I will have to add tourney results manually..

How did you import? Was it a conversion from another database, or did you import from your own hand histories and summary files?
The import status should have told you what the errors were, but if you've restarted since then that will have gone. If you have time to reproduce this at some point, it would be useful for us to see the files which cause the errors so that we can see if there is a problem in the files or in PT4.

ugh sorry, I forgot to reply to this.
I imported it from my PT3 database. I have used PT4 since. If I try to reproduce this, will this have the risk of overwriting my PT4 database completely (so that I would miss my new hands) or would it just import the hands from PT3 and add them, in case they weren't there already?

If you re-run the conversion it will only add new hands to your existing database - it won't overwrite or remove anything, so it's safe to run again if you'd like to help us find the problem.
If you do that, it would be useful if you could follow these steps:

Before you start the conversion use the File menu to Open User Data Folder.
That will open a folder window, and when you start the conversion PT4 will create a subfolder there called "TempExport".
Once the export/extract part of the conversion has been completed please make a copy of the TempExport folder - either highlight it and then press control-C then control-V, or hold the control key down and drag the folder to a blank part of the same window and drop it so that it makes a copy. Note that you need to make a copy, NOT move the folder.
When the conversion process finishes attach the PokerTracker.log file from that same folder to a Support Ticket.
The original TempExport folder will be deleted when the conversion finishes, but we'll have a copy of the files in the folder you copied, so we'll be able to check out any errors reported in the logs.
Thanks.

well I didn't get very far:

it didn't. :-(
I tried it from all 3 main tabs (community, play poker and view stats), in case this would make a difference, but it didn't.
I also tried to find such a folder in my PT4 folder via the explorer but couldn't find anything there either.

That folder may not open if you're running PT4 under a Windows user login which is not an administrator account - is that the case for you?

The PT4 user data folder is a folder like this:
C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\
..but if you're logged in as a non-admin user it will be using the name of the admin user whose credentials you use when you run PT4, which you won't be able to access because your current user won't have permission.

yeah that is correct. I am running it as admin but not from the admin account.

ok, I will try this from the admin account once I am through with my currency convertion issue.
