at the moment as soon as there is a note automatically taken by the program (eg called 3bet) that player is marked as having a note. this means that every single player i have played more than a few hands with is marked as having a note.

is there a way to change it so that only players i have hand-typed notes on are marked as having a note?

I don't think that is currently possible, other than by changing the note colour when you make a manual note. I like the idea, though, and I will make sure that the development team see it.

changing the note colour wouldn't make much of a difference since the border will still be marked yellow so there is no way to distinguish between specific notes and automatic notes.

this would be a fairly big problem for me, i like to take a lot of notes on my opponents tendencies but if i have to keep checking everyone for notes while multitabling it would be very difficult to keep track of.

The yellow border is only for auto notes. It does not activate with normal notes.

You can change the color of note icon using the black box next to the player's name in the note editor window. If you assign colors when you take notes then you'll always know who you have notes on (and if you create a rubric that works for you, you may even know a little bit more).
