Unable to connect to database

Postby terrik » Wed Feb 26, 2025 11:55 pm

Pokertracker 4 was working before but now it is not working.

It says 'Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration.'

And then when I ignore that it says 'PokerTracker cannot operate without PostgreSQL.'

Why is it suddenly giving this issue?

Locate and delete the postmaster.pid file if it is present (not "postmaster.opts" which may be there too). You can find that file in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\12\data\ although you may have a different PostgreSQL version (e.g. 10, 16). Once it's deleted, reboot and try starting PokerTracker 4 again. If that does not help then click your Windows Start button then type the following command:

services.msc

and click on it when it appears. Do you see the PostgreSQL service in the list? Is it started, or can you start it? What is its 'Status' and 'Startup Type'? If the PostgreSQL service is listed but not starting then open the Event Viewer (in the same way - if you type 'event' you should see it). In the top left section, expand "Windows Logs" and click on "Application". Do you see any recent errors in the top center section for PostgreSQL? If you do let us know what they say.

I deleted the postmaster.pid file but it still does not work.

When I clicked on the services.msc it says its status is started startup type is automated.

If the PostgreSQL service is running then PokerTracker 4 should be able to connect so please start PokerTracker 4 with logging enabled via 'Windows Start Menu -> All Programs -> PokerTracker 4 -> PokerTracker 4 (Logging Enabled)'. Next reproduce this issue and then attach your log file to a Support Ticket:

C:\Users\{Windows Login}\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\Logs\PokerTracker4.log

To access the log file open File Explorer in Windows and enter the following in the address bar:

%localappdata%\PokerTracker 4\Logs

The file we need will be the text file called 'PokerTracker4' or 'PokerTracker4.log' that is in that folder.

Please also attach your 5 latest PostgreSQL log files to your ticket from:

C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\x\data\pg_log

(x refers to the version of PostgreSQL installed on your computer).
