Configuring PostgreSQL Database issue

Hello, I am transitionning from HM3 to PT4.


I was still using old PostgreSQL 8.4 with HM3 and I understood that it was no longer supported to use PT4.
So I uninstalled PostgreSQL 8.4 and installed PostgreSQL 16.4. (not sure if it is totally uninstalled as I still have C:/postgreSQL folder)


When I open PT4, I get the "Configure PostgreSQL Database" pop up and I get this error when I click create :

Unable to create PostgreSQL database: PT4 DB
Reason: This server is not responding to connection attempts. Please restart the PostgreSQL service, then PokerTracker and try again.


On Services, postgresql-x64-16 is stopped, when I try to run it I get the error 1053 didn't respond etc...


Is the issue coming from 2 versions of PostgreSQL configuration files clashing or something else ?

If you're using any security software (such as antivirus, firewall), please make sure to follow the instructions given in the Security Software Configuration Guide and restart your computer. If the PostgreSQL v16 service is still not starting then click your Windows Start button, type 'Event Viewer' and select it. After the Event Viewer opens then in the top left section expand "Windows Logs" and click on "Application". Do you see any recent errors in the top center section for PostgreSQL? If you do let us know what they say.

I followed the instructions for the google firewall.

It still doesn't work and I have errors in the windows logs :

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for postgresql-x64-16 service to connect - PostgreSQL Server 16.

The postgresql-x64-16 - PostgreSQL Server 16 service failed to start due to the error:
The service did not respond quickly enough to the launch or control request.

That looks like something on your end is preventing the PostgreSQL service from starting up. So we can investigate and follow up with you please start PokerTracker 4 via 'Windows Start Menu -> All Programs -> PokerTracker 4 -> PokerTracker 4 (Logging Enabled)', click through any messages and then attach your PokerTracker 4 and PostgreSQL log files to a Support Ticket:

C:\Users\{Windows Login}\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\Logs\PokerTracker4.log

To access the log file open File Explorer in Windows and enter the following in the address bar:

%localappdata%\PokerTracker 4\Logs

The file we need will be the text file called 'PokerTracker4' or 'PokerTracker4.log' that is in that folder.

Also grab your 5 latest PostgreSQL log files from this folder and attach those to the ticket:

C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/16/data/pg_log
