I downloaded a trial of holdem manager (which also uses postgre), and had very little luck getting it to run stably on my machine. (Win XP) So I installed PT3 - of course I allready had postgre installed. It tried to connect - didn't work. Tried the server password of dbpass (I never did any password or anything like this procedure with manager) - no joy. Tried to find a configuration file to change to 'trust' as per the manual and FAQ - does not seem to exist. (postgre 8.4.x - whereas the PT3 manual referes to 8.3x)
So - uninstalled postgre - deleted the user account with cmd line, and then nuked the folder in windows explorer as per the instructions. Uninstalled PT3. Re-installed PT3 (it is the complete install with postgre - supposedly - the file name is PT-Install-v3.00.5.2.pgsql
It comlpained that could not connect upon launch. Looked in the start>all programs menu - no postgre visible.
Downloaded the latest build (8.4.2-1) from postgre.org - ran the installer - it went about 95% then quit with an installer error. Ran it again - it got through this time, and popped up a welcome screen asking for a database password - would not accept dbpass, nor would it accept blank.
As Josarian said - that is some catch, that catch 22!!
What now?? PS - the postgre does not presently show up under the uninstall programs tab.
