Currency Conversion

Postby ShellysAshes » Wed Jun 22, 2011 5:27 pm

Played a session using $, my native currency, and £ yesterday. This will become a regular occurance for me and will be using euros too, been through the guide on currency but can't find how to convert the amount won on the £ tables into $, currently it is just registering any wins or losses as $ which is innacurate.
I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this and this is probably a silly request as the information is out there, I'm just not that tekky and not the sharpest in all honesty. Any chance someone can give me a quick tutorial or guide me to the relevant information?
Cheers in advance, Tom Read.

The Currency guide was meant to help you get started so if you could tell me which parts of it were confusing, I'd appreciate it.

What you need to do is set your Global currency in the Configure --> Configure Currency window, then set the reports to display Amount Won (Global) - it's a statistic, you can set it to display by clicking the little configure icon (the small wrench) and add Amount Won (Global) - you'll want to get rid of the normal "Amount Won" - if you want to see the winnings in the table the hands were played in, use Amount Won (Native).

I have spent the last hour working through what you said, and really trying hard with the guide rather than seeking to be spoonfed, and I think I have sorted it.

As you can see I have removed the amount won stat and replaced with native and global stats. Am I right in thinking that any session where I use currency other than $, which is my global, then all I have to do is go into the currecy config tab and click on the £ or euro tables, then click set rate and that will sort it out for me? Doesn't seem like too much hassle.

You can either set a rate manually or you can use the average spot price for the day by using the automatic rates option on the Configure Currency page - it's your choice which you would prefer.

For those picky about currency terms:

If you chose a session that is not dated today then the rate chosen is the historical mid-market rate for that day.
If you chose a session that is today then we apply the current, market-delayed spot rate.

Since the currencies don't tend to swing too much over short periods of time the easiest procedure is update your session on a weekly or monthly basis taking care to select the sessions from the previous week. For example every Sunday select every session from the previous Sunday up to the current Sunday. This will update the previous Sunday from the spot rate to the historical mid-market rate. Alternatively on the 1st of the month you could select all of the sessions from the previous month.

Also, in terms of the future PT4 feature-set, be sure and give us feedback on the currency system. We have some upgrades planned internally to make this process more automated, but we would love feedback from users that are using this feature on a daily basis.

@ Tarix

I've followed this currency deal on both PT3 and HEM and when both companies mentioned this feature would be implemented I thought to myself "self, this is going to be a crock". Not because of any lack of expertise on the part of the PT/HEM developers, but for the simple fact that it will never be 100% accurate, and when it comes to $$ folks want accuracy.

That's why we allow for a manual conversion rate to be selected on a per session basis. How much more accurate is it possible to get? (I ask in all seriousness; I don't know much about international currency conversion.)

This is precisely why we do the rate per session. You can get penny level accuracy that way.

Hi again, my single session graphs aren't refreshing after currency conversions made at the end of sessions. The monthly graph appears to be fine.
Eg; played a session tonight mixing the 3 main currencies, made £71 on a table, total winnings for the session was just above a BI but after the conversion of £ to $ was close to 2BI at my global currency.
It looks like my monthly graph has incorporated these conversions as amount won (global) matches up with the graph. But the single session graphs aren't refreshing and there doesn't seem to be a toolbar or a way to configure these, which I like using in my thread in PGC on 2+2.
Is there a way to amend this? I suspect that the single session graphs have less options as a way to make the software run smoother on less powerful machines. Hopefully there is a solution though!?
